Finally found a landscape border company

Posted by nbean  Published in Uncategorized

http://www.donwalleyslandscapeborders.com/

Finally I found someone who installs concrete landscape boarders. Ive called around to a few places with no leads over the past few months and Saturday I see Don’s ad in the paper. I’m awaiting a quote. These boarders seem to be more popular in the west coast than the east, but they seem to be the perfect choice for those who want a no maintenance exterior (why do you think vinyl is so popular?) . Ive got enough stuff that requires maintenance! The quote I received was $7/ linear foot and $10 for each corner/circle.

Cars on sale

Posted by nbean  Published in cars, saving money

Ive noticed a lot of used Infiniti G35’s for sale at reasonable prices. I’m not a fan of Nissan due to there transmission issues but if the price is right I would snatch one of these baby’s up. Im also not really excited about buying an overpriced Maxima, but the G looks a lot better. Keep in mind I have a Chrysler Pacifica that has a transmission with a history of failing (However, its not as bad as the Ford Explorer) but the price was right at purchase and the cost to rebuild is very reasonable. As with any car, I recommend changing the transmission fluid every 30-40K.  With early fluid changes you should have a transmission that last for a long time.

Private schools are the way to go

Posted by nbean  Published in Uncategorized, politics, rant, schools

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/04/AR2008040402921.html

Were getting ripped off. Every parent who makes the decision that they want to send there child to private school it effectively paying for a service they aren’t using. When I bring this topic up the first thing I hear is this big teachers union speech on how public schools are great. Really? So the affluent just send there kids there to waste money. Keep in mind these “Rich” people are likely to shop at Wal-Mart and cut costs as much if not more than you. Public schools also may teach your child things you don’t believe in such as Darwinism and “Safe” sex. Oh and then there’s the kids from parents who don’t give a rats about there family and have unruly kids who talk about movies someone my age shouldn’t see. Why can’t the Christian choose a school that upholds there beliefs as well as the Jew or Atheist? Better yet these kids should talk about what they believe and why in some speech class together.

My choice is Boyd Buchanan. That may seem odd considering the belief differenced between myself and the church of Christ, but I believe its the best choice for my family.

Expelled!

Well it would seem that another scientist has been “expelled” for his views on debating creationism and the big bang. I find it interesting because you have to have non scientific faith in something that came from nothing with both ideals. Its also mind blowing that science can not actually prove anything by nature and can only support viewpoints with collected data (interesting though..if you read his word and collect data from it would the physical world and the written word match?) In my opinion the big bang theory means nothing to someone who believes God (or whoever you believe right or wrong) because the fact to all this energy that the world is made of is insignificant to the reason it happened. The bible doesn’t explain the mechanics of how something as complicated as the universe was created but it does state that it was God’s handiwork. There is no scientific way of measuring supernatural events since by nature they are one time events that can not be recreated.

How to save money on gas by spending more or the same/Why you should avoid cheep gas!

Posted by nbean  Published in ramble, saving money

We have has some bad congressmen and women the past few years in both parties.  One bright ideal congress had was to force gasoline makers to use Ethanol instead of  MTBE. While MTBE is bad and causes water pollution if held in leaky tanks, we are effectively reducing the efficiency (by adding a product of lower energy) of gas thus increasing our demand for oil.

I buy Shell gas. My dads MPG went from 18 to 21 MPGS and my millage has been steady at 20-21MPG’s for a car with a 5.0 liter v8. Before I switched my mileage varied between 16-20 MPGs.  Keep in mind my dads 2001 S-10 and my 91 Grand Marquis where never designed to run on fuel with Ethanol. I believe in maintenance and keeping a car until the wheels fall off. Ive got over 200K or close from every car Ive owned.

Amanda’s 06′ Pacifica gets better MPG’s but I don’t have specifics on it. I can say that the car runs a lot better and has a lot more power with non ethanol gas. It was designed for optimal power with mid grade and thats generally what I use.  If you fill this car up with premium it gets rather thirsty and your MPG’s go to pot.

So even thought Wal-Mart has “the cheapest” gas on the sign my math shows its cheeper to get better gas in wich your car gets better MPG’s. Beam me up! I actually heard some Redneck talk to his wife the other day at Zaxby’s stating “you might as well get gas over there since its cheaper”. I almost said something but usually in situations like that your assuming the someone besides yourself is logical, can do simple math and has a job. With my luck I would have been wrong on all three accounts.

Diskpart..Offset VS Align?

Posted by nbean  Published in Uncategorized

I haven’t found a good post explaining this yet so ill put my thoughts out here. Diskpart is a utility that comes with Windows 2003 Server. So heres my understanding…

Align puts the partiton at the space you specify and marks the blank space as unusable.

Offset put the partition at the space you specify but leaves the space free.

The difference between the two on the actual partitions (Dell MD3000 SAS) was just a few hundred MB’s but I’d like to know if it really matters if you offset or align since the data is theoretically in the same place.

Why I usually shop at BI-LO…I’m cheep!

Posted by nbean  Published in saving money

I went to bi-lo tonight and got soaked. My wife called me to tell me our nice tent we had in the back was in a few pieces (as if I could help) during my shopping due to a surprise thunder storm.  My total was $125.15 minus $28.33 bonus card savings, $14.79 coupon and $1.55 extra coupon savings.  In other words I saved $44.67 (and I only spent $88)  and didn’t have to drive 5 miles to Wal-Mart Hell. By the way it would have been a lot more there.  I bought 43 items total. Heres how I do it….

1. I get the weekend paper..its full of coupons

2. Utilize online cupons

3. Utilize store cupons

4. Find on sale and by 1 get 1 free items and search for coupons for them online.

5. Avoid prepackaged foods unless they are a good value and quality

6. Only buy whats on the list unless its a great deal.i look for closeouts

7.Avoid soft drinks…i still buy them but usually at whoever is running a food deal on them.

Heres a site that has a lot of info and a pertty good stratigy

Wal-Mart Hell

Posted by nbean  Published in ramble

I hate Wal-Mart.  Customer service is non existent. Prices aren’t always cheep as perceived on a slew of items (they do have cheep motor oil and thats where I get Mobil 1). Lines are long and its just a stressful place in general. I have a theory on sinners and Wal-Mart. If you die at Wal-Mart and find yourself I Hell you’ll never know it. Targets better but you see a lot of yuppie’s and trophy wifes gone bad.

Simple Vista Sound issue…

Posted by nbean  Published in PC repair Humor

My neighbor has an issue with his new Dell desktop after I removed some spy ware on it a week before.  My first assumption was that the cable was unplugged since we move the tower to install a wireless router on his network.  It was plugged in. Then i started looking at drivers which where all installed correctly as well as the mixer settings. All was good. Then I looked back at the machine which had a hidden door in the front. I lifted it up to find the problem. His two year old grandson loves to play with that cover and decided that the headphone jack in the front needed a screw in it grounding out the read audio…
